Sustainable summer house made from natural materials
A modern house should not only be beautiful and functional. It should also contribute positively to the climate and our planet. That is why we use materials that are natural or that do not require much processing. We do not build in concrete and minimize the use of steel, and still we have created a house that is durable and will survive generations. We believe that you will also love living in a house built with these principles in mind.
Our wooden facade cladding is treated with an old Japanese technique, where the wood is both heat-treated and surface-burned. This creates a unique and natural look and makes the wood very durable and resistant to moisture, rot and mold. The black color is natural and does not require painting.
The foundation of the house is made of cellular glass, which is based on glass recycled from industry and solidified into what looks like granite stone. Cellular glass is a very strong and durable material, which can also be recycled if the house is ever demolished.
The large windows in the Heartwood house draw nature in and open up the house. Our houses feel larger than they actually are because the transition between what is inside and outside is an important part of the design.
